Christmas Decor Wishlist

Can you ever have too many Christmas decorations?

The answer is probably yes, but seeing as we’re still creating and growing our home, and this only being our second Christmas in the house (having moved in last August)…it’d be rude not to look 😉 So I’ve noted down 8 of the decor pieces that have caught my eye this year! One or two mayyyyy have been purchased recently – but Bish, can I have them all please, they’re good investments, promise 😇

LED wooden star – Matalan

Nutcracker – Debenhams

All of them, totally justified and would make lovely additions to what we already have…CAN I HAVE THEM ALL PLEASE? YES? OKAY? THANKYOUUUUUUUU!

Country Living Christmas Fair & 20% Off Tickets!

Disclaimer: This is a gifted experience and contains affiliate links

Hello all, welcome back to Blogmas 2019! As I mentioned in my first Blogmas post, ‘December Bucket List’, I’ve been invited to attend the Country Living Christmas Fair at Harrogate Convention Centre tomorrow!

I’ve never been before so don’t know what to expect…but it sounds amazing and I’m really excited!

harrogate on tree image .jpg

The website is really easy to navigate, particularly when looking at the exhibitor info (which is the first place I went). There are so many different companies who are going to be there: we’re talking crafts, jewellery, photography and art, garden, skincare, gifts…but I think we all know the filter I clicked on first…FOOD AND DRINK! I just had to know who was going to be there and what I was going to be eating on the day 😂 Now, there IS the opportunity to have a roast dinner (of either one or two courses) in the Royal Hall, which looks and sounds AMAZING! I’ve only ever visited the Royal Hall in a work capacity, when I’ve been performing or when it’s been a Showcase and I’m there in teacher/choreographer mode…so if I get chance, I’d love to lunch in there!

Lunch slots are already booking up quite quickly, but I decided not to book in advance – mainly because I’m booked into a workshop, and my best girlie’s going to come and meet me for a bit in her lunch hour. I hate having to clock watch and not enjoy experiences fully and properly, so I’ll play it by ear on the day.

CL_ChristmasFair_Dec18 215.jpg

I’m particularly looking forward to all the home decor/interior stands that are going to be there! Seeing as I’m actually an adult now (I’ve been denying it for so long, but feel I can’t anymore!), anything home related excites me – but even more so since we moved into our first house last Autumn. Progress with decorating and finishing it off has been slow – which was to be expected with the wedding, but the brakes were put on again when Ed landed the We Will Rock You Tour – we’re a family, we want to do it as a team, so it just felt wrong to do anything whilst he was away. Even though we’re not continuing properly with ‘house things’ until he returns, I can’t help looking. And wishing. And wanting. So it’s not my fault if I ‘accidentally’ make any purchases at these stands… 😉

CL_Christmas_Web 006.jpg

There’s also a lot of workshops going on, and I’m booked into the ‘How Green Is Your Christmas’ workshop at 11:45am, which, as the title suggests, will provide information on how to have a greener, more sustainable Christmas. This includes reducing waste, recycling and minimising your carbon footprint. This is the first year that I’ll be hosting Christmas (eek!) as we got married this May! I didn’t fancy taking on the challenge of cooking my first ever Christmas lunch for 11 people (plus they wouldn’t fit round our small dining table), so Ed’ll be my Guinea Pig as far as Christmas Dinner is concerned…but the rest of the fam has been invited over for the afternoon. So I don’t think this event and this workshop could have come at a better time!

As well as the exhibitors and workshops, there’s also Country Living’s Live Kitchen and Viking Cruise’s champagne bar to visit (I shall be LEAPING over the crowds to get my fizz) and the opportunity for VIP experiences and afternoon tea are available too. The beauty of this event (apart from it being Christmassy and guaranteed to get us all in the festive spirit!) is that it can be tailored entirely to suit yourself. Spend as much or as little of your day there as you want, with the most or the least amount of fuss (whichever your preference).

upperstevents.25.06.19._S10-106 LD.jpg

This is my absolute FAVOURITE time of the year, but I rarely get the opportunity to attend these kinds of festive events because they tend to clash with my work schedule. This year however, I made an agreement with myself that I would attend at least one fair and one market – and was so excited when the invite came through! I can’t wait to feel UTTERLY festive!

Who else wants in?!
Book here for 20% off tickets!
Go on, you know you want to 😉 Merry Christmas!

December Bucket List

December is here which means the return of BLOGMAS! Maybe I should’ve started yesterday on the 1st, but I spent half the day at work, and the other half of the day DECORATING! Because the house HAS to get gotto’d (I’ve used it as a verb before, and I’m using it again coz I like it!) as soon as December hits!

As I did last year, I’ll be posting every other day up until Christmas. I know some bloggers manage one a day, but that’s just too much of a commitment for me! On the days I don’t publish something I’ll be sharing one of last year’s posts in case you missed them.

So, to kick Blogmas 2019 off, instead of doing an introduction like last year, I though it’d be fun to write a December bucket list. The list is as much for me as it is for you I guess, I want to FILL my December with plans and merriment, particularly as Ed is away. Here we go…

💡 Decorate 💡

Self explanatory, and I nailed it already. TICK ✔️

🎶 Play Christmas playlists on repeat 🎶

Apart from when I’m at work (and sometimes AT work in the last few lessons of the year), it’s the only music I’ll play! I love it and gets me RIGHT in the Christmas spirit.

💃 Christmas Crackers 💃

No, not the home of plastic rings and miniature nail clippers, the Studio’s annual Christmas show. Which is always absolutely lovely, and although I can’t make all of the performances this year because of other work commitments, I’ll definitely be there on the Saturday night to support the Studio fam, and more importantly, my gorgeous Junior and Senior Contemporary/Lyrical classes who’ve worked so hard on their routines.

💝 Visit the Country Living Christmas Fair 💝

I’ve never been before, so I’m very excited to be going in a couple of days time! It’s being held at the Harrogate Convention Centre from Thursday 5th – Sunday 8th, and if you haven’t got your tickets yet but want a JUICY 20% OFF (I KNOW!), book your tickets through this link.

upperstevents.25.06.19._S11-121 LD.jpg

🐮 Panto 🐮

It isn’t Christmas without a panto! The last few years I’ve ventured to various parts of the north to see Ed in panto, but seeing as he’s not in this one this year, I’m heading to Wakefield’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the end of the week, to support a gorgeous girlie friend of mine and some of my Academy kids who are taking part! I’m hoping to find time to visit Harrogate panto as well!

❄️ Watch the Nutcracker ❄️

I adore this ballet, more than I can express in words. Always have, always will. I’ve never managed to see it live, it’s never been at a theatre near home at Christmas (apart from when I was living in London, but there’s no way I could’ve afforded a ticket to the Opera House)! It’s festive and totally magical, and one of my favourite traditions.

🌨️ Knaresborough Christmas Market 🌨️

I never get to go to Christmas markets, they’re always on weekends, and I work weekends! 😢 And by the time I break up for Christmas, they’ve all finished! This year however, I’m putting my foot down. I’m going to have to go in my work clothes straight from my Wakey Sunday session…but I WILL BE THERE, even if it’s for the last 30 minutes (which it probably will be)! 😂

🎄 Christmas Eve Walk 🎄

Again, one of my favourite traditions.

🥂 Christmas Drinks with Friends 🥂

Duh. Drinks with friends are good any time, but even MORE so at Christmas.

🎥 ALL the Chirstmas films with Baileys 🎥

I even wrote a list so I didn’t miss any! So that’s at least one, if not two or three, for every day up until Christmas. That’s a lot of Baileys…

IMG_6062

🦃 Cook my first Christmas Dinner 🦃

Yep. This is the year. First year married, first year to cook Christmas dinner! Wish me luck…

See the lights

Who else’s parents used to make detours in the car to see the lights? Whether that was lights in town or some horribly tacky OTT houses on the way back from your Grandparent’s house, it was part of Christmas, and a guaranteed way of making you feel festive.

ACS_0047

🛍️ Shopping Day 🛍️

I love Christmas shopping. I don’t have the money to do it, but I still love it! A nice wintery outfit, a crisp cold day, the hustle and bustle of town, the smell of chestnuts in the air, Christmas music floating out of shops or down the street from a choir or singer…I just love it.

🎁 Spend an evening wrapping presents 🎁

Baileys is crucial, and it has to be accompanied by either a Christmas film or Christmas music…I think I always change it up, dependent on how I’m feeling.

☕ COPIOUS amounts of yummy hot chocolates

I tried some new recipes out last year, have a look… 😍

IMG_5641

🥧 Country Pub Lunch 🥧

I haven’t had a country pub lunch for longer than I can remember, and Christmas seems a good time to end that dry spell! Log fires, beams, Christmas decorations, good food, good drink…I’m an eager beaver so I’ve already got it booked in…I haven’t seen Pearson properly since the wedding (in his words, “we’re literally the worst best friends ever” 😂), so it’ll be a gorgeous afternoon.

🎅 Host Christmas Day 🎅

It’s not the first year in the house, but it’s the first year married, and this was the right time to change Christmas for the family. So Ed and I get to enjoy Christmas morning and Christmas dinner as just the two of us (YAY, I’ve been looking forward to this for so long), and the fam will come over later in the afternoon. I’ve already started planning my buffet… Naturally. #OrganisationQueen.

I’m sure there’ll be more activities that I think of over the next week or so, but I’m SO looking forward to all of these already! 😍

Thankyou for reading, see you for Blogmas day 2!

Life Update: Autumn 2019

Hiya lovelies! 👋 It feels like such a long time since I last posted…

So, back in summer, I had a very smug morning when I managed to plan out all my blog posts for the rest of the year. I didn’t write them, but they were all planned out, and knowing what a hectic few months I was about to have, I felt really on my game…

…and here we are now, 3 months later, after an unintentional break 😂 Life became incredibly busy and stagy (more so than usual), so I didn’t have time to write! And, I’ve always stood by the fact that blogging is my hobby, and I should only be writing if I’m enjoying it and/or inspired to do so.

me

I DID however have time to think about my new venture, my VLOG 🎥 It’s been much easier to work on than the blog, coz I’ve just gone around filming bits of my life with my phone! Yes, editing is time consuming, but it’s easy to leave and come back to when I have small pockets of time (it tends to be late on a night when I’m winding down from work). I can’t do that with the blog, I need to have time to sit and focus my mind on writing without distractions or having to break off. I’ve done 6 so far, all which have a ‘come with me’ kind of feel to them. That wasn’t the intention when I first started it, but with how life’s played out the last few months, it just seemed to work. CLICK HERE to get to my channel if you missed any/all of the vlogs.

youtube

So if you haven’t been anywhere near me, my social media or my vlog, I need to give you a quick update.

The biggest most exciting bit of news, is that my INSANELY talented hubby headed off to London at the start of August to start rehearsals for the 12 month We Will Rock You UK/Ireland tour! 🤘 That’s when I started the vlog – the aim was to have something to keep me occupied whilst he was away. It proved to do just that, and I really enjoy it! LOOK AT MY SUPERSTAR, I’d have fan-girled so hard 😂

ea620b2f-14e6-440b-af28-3a671985668c

September came and went in a whirlwind of classes and rehearsals 💃 At this point, I was working my normal job (and in that rehearsing for my Sunday Academy kid’s Showcase in October, and also starting to workshop ideas for the Studio’s Christmas Show and annual Showcase in 2020). Rehearsals for Footloose were in full swing (3-4 nights a week), and I was also spending my Sunday afternoon in Shipley rehearsing for Shrek.
IMG_1010_Facetune_28-10-2019-11-56-30Life was an absolute blur of staginess 🎭

It was wonderful, but I had no time for a social life or family – so you can understand that there was no hope for the blog! Shrek happened at the beginning of October in Bradford (you can see my show week video here), then 3 weeks later, Footloose opened in Harrogate (and you can see behind the scenes of show week here).

dfjn.jpgNovember appeared as if by magic, the shows had ended, the Academy showcase was over, and suddenly, life got that bit more calm (by comparison!). I’ve had plenty of things to do though, and it was only last week that I got a weekend (the first since summer, so it was VERY much needed). I gave the downstairs bathroom a complete makeover (without using a drill, some of you will be very relieved to hear!), and I’ve got on with all the adulting things I’ve been putting off for the last few months (tax return, new car insurance, gardening – oh yeh, I know how to party) 🎉

And suddenly, Christmas is nearly upon us! 👏

ACS_0092.JPG

It’s been a crazy few months, and as well as it being ridiculous fun and allowing me the opportunity to work with some absolutely incredible people, it kept me distracted from the lack of Ed in my life. He’s been home a couple of times (when the show went to Sheffield and Newcastle and he was able to stay at home and commute over), and I just had him home for 2 weeks because WWRY was in Leeds! WHICH by the way, I HAVE to plug now, because it’s AMAZING. 🔥

The show’s always been one of my favourites, but I was blown away, and that’s not just me being biased…though, I have to say, my hubby’s a ROCK STAR, particularly when he went on as Brit! 😍 The show’s been staged brilliantly, the band are amazing, and the TALENT of every single person on that stage is mind blowing. Please, just go and see it. If you can find spare tickets that is…

Image-1.jpgSo the tour continues, I miss Ed like mad, but we make it work, and Whatsapp voice notes are our favourite thing. It’s like the personal touch of a phone call, but without the hassle of having to wait until you’re both free – which is perfect for our lifestyles. Rehearsals continue during lesson time at the Studio, both Academies are into skill building term, and I have no cover work lined up. So it’s all plain sailing!

The plan now, is to get really festive! It’s my absolute FAVOURITE time of the year, so as soon as I get back from work on Sunday (festive Costa in hand), the tree will be going up, and the house covered in fairy lights.

🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄

Then, next Thurday, I head to the Country Living Christmas Fair at Harrogate Convention Centre! It’s on from Thursday 5th – Sunday 8th, and you can get 20% off tickets if you click on my little link just here 😊

🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄

IMG_5193_Facetune_27-11-2019-16-29-01.jpgWe have the Studio’s Christmas show in a couple of weeks, then work will finish for Christmas shortly after. I’ll then be enjoying some long awaited time off!

I’m sleepy, I’m run down, I’m not sure how I’m still functioning – but I feel very happy, and so lucky. I need to take this opportunity to thank every single person that’s shown love, care, support and understanding to myself and Ed over the last few months – you know who you are and we appreciate and love you so much ❤️

NOW…BRING ON BLOGMAS! 🎅 I’ll be posting a Christmas themed blog every other day during December and on the days I don’t post, I’ll be sharing one of last year’s blog posts!

Thankyou for reading, and thankyou for supporting for my blog/vlog/Insta – it means a lot 💖

9 Reasons I Feel Like An Adult This Month

‘Adulting’ is a term I use frequently with my friends – sometimes sarcastically, sometimes seriously – but always with the slight disbelief that we’re ACTUALLY ADULTS, and not just moseying through life as our teenage selves did. I’m married, I have a house, a car, amazing jobs…yet I still struggle to get my head around the fact that I’m almost in my late twenties, and that the kids I teach will see me as a ‘grown up’! I decided I’d just take note of some of the things that have highlighted my ‘adult’ status this month:

1. I made an ‘unwanted presents’ box in the loft

It’s no secret that on some occasions during our lives, we all receive presents we don’t like, don’t need, or just aren’t ‘us’. We can’t bear to throw them away because we feel guilty (even though the person who gifted them will probably never know), and it’s not that we’re ungrateful…but when you don’t like whatever it is, or it has no place in your life, what do you do? Well, I made a box. A box for unwanted gifts that can sit in the loft, out of sight, but always there. And if you’re sat there reading this thinking ‘that’s awful!’, then you’re lying, and you know full well that you have your own system (even if it’s not the same as mine) of dealing with weird gifts.

2. We have a flowerbed

AND WE’RE VERY PROUD OF IT! We got a bit of advice from Granny Nette (thankyou!) about how to start, but other than that, we did it all ourselves! It’s really pretty, and we’re really proud of ourselves that we did something adult-y that went right.

IMG_4469.JPEG

3. I bought a spirit level

I used to borrow dad’s, but I decided that I’d got to a stage in my life where I needed my own. So I got one.

4. Warm weather = more washing!

Once upon a time, the heat excited you because it meant you could go and do fun things, or spend longer with your friends. Now, if I wake up and the weather’s forecast to be warm with no rain, I get excited for all the washing I know I can get done (and dried!) that day.

5. I drove to get a Maccies and ended up coming back with M&S food

The intention after summer school was to drive to the retail park and treat myself to a takeaway…but as soon as I got there, I didn’t fancy it. So into M&S I went, and picked up some flowers for myself when I got there too.

6. Garden Centre trips are REALLY FUN

So, the homewear shopping trips started to become fun when I was a student, but since we moved into the house and we have a garden now, Homebase/garden centre trips have become just as fun!

IMG_7664.JPEG

7. I had to shout at kids for playing in our drive

Yep, I turned myself into ‘that scary lady who lives at number ___’. But when the kids were playing around our cars, that’s a big NOPE. I got very cross. And anyone who knows me, knows that when I get really riled up, it’s not pretty. It worked though, I haven’t seen them anywhere near our house or drive since! Mwahaha…

8. I’m googling weeding tips

I don’t think there’s anything to comment on, there’s just no denying it’s ridiculously adult-y, and I wouldn’t have been doing it a few years back!

9. “Sorry, my husband deals with that”

It’s happen a couple of times, but the main one was to a Virgin cold caller knocking on the door with a ‘I noticed you’re not with us’ spiel…it meant I could get rid of him within 2 seconds of opening the door ✋

I also still feel giddy when I refer to Ed as my ‘husband’ or someone calls me by my new surname 😍

Who else has similar, scary moments of realisation?! 🙈

The Pros and Cons of Wedding Fayres

Before I start, full photo credit goes to the UK Wedding Event website. I made sure that all of the photos used were taken on the day we were there – so you can actually get a sense of the vibe we were feeling when we were walking round 😊

30629376_1110592645747433_2327551234216558592_o (1)

After we got engaged, the main thing people said to me (after congratulations!), was ‘Go to a Wedding Fayre/Fayres’. A lot of Fayres are on Sundays which is one of my work days, so we only managed to get ourselves to one, back in the Easter Holidays. Which some might think was a shame, but honestly, it was a lovely afternoon, a great experience, and we didn’t come away feeling like we needed to source more ideas – we actually had too many!

I’d already done a fairly substantial amount of research by the time we went to the Fayre, hosted by The UK Wedding Event at the Harrogate Sun Pavilions. It was 6 weeks after our engagement, and by this point we already had the venue booked, colour scheme decided, and I’d sat for hoursssss on Pinterest looking at centre pieces, flowers cake, decor ideas… (Yes, organisation Queen is in her ELEMENT with this wedding planning malarkey!) There’s SO many ideas out there for any kind of wedding, and social media has proved to be a WONDERFUL tool (particularly Etsy, but I’m going to come back to that another time).

30657040_1110594562413908_1716699265729822720_o

I’ve put together a list of Pros and Cons about the event. Obviously, this is totally personal so I’m not claiming it’s the gospel truth, but I thought you might be interested 😊

PROS:

Meeting Local Suppliers:

One of the things that Ed and I had decided quite early on, was that we wanted to source as many LOCAL suppliers as possible. For a multitude of reasons, but the main two being:
a) We want to support local business
b) We have so many ties to the area (including him proposing at Knaresborough Castle)…it just felt like a really nice bow to tie our whole relationship together.
THIS was where the Wedding Fayre really delivered. We were able to meet local businesses (it turns out that one company that we’re definitely going to go with LITERALLY lives round the corner from us!), that we wouldn’t have found had we just sat on Google.

Getting Ideas:

This is the main reason for all of my friend’s Fayre recommendations…there’ll be things there that you won’t find scrolling through Google or Pinterest (unless you have a million free hours). There was a guy at ours for example who did engravings and carvings into a variety of objects for place names, seating plans etc etc. I’d never have thought of using a mirror engraving as a seating plan, but there you go!

Goodie Bag:

YESSSSS who doesn’t LOVE a goodie bag?! With The UK Wedding Events team (who organise Fayres all over Yorkshire), you get a canvas tote on arrival with a floor plan of what’s where, and a bunch of wedding magazines and flyers. You’ll pick up more little freebies as you go round, but my fave (obviously) were the food stands 😉 Stood in Valley Gardens, eating strawberry/champagne fudge is NOT a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Spending time with your fiance:

Ed and I live together so we see each other every day, but because of work and house stresses the last few months, we’ve not had an awful lot of time to spend together in a ‘going out and doing things’ sense. I value every minute I spend with him anyway, but getting out of the flat and doing something adventurous or different is always lovely – and fun!
As much as anything else, it’s nice to be able to start your wedding journey together. I know lots of partners will have different plans for who does what, as it’s not possible to do everything together. So being able to spend some time ‘wedding-ing’ (just the two of you as well, without any family or friends present) is really special. Especially when you’re recently engaged and it’s all still new and exciting and a bit weird, and people keep on congratulating you!

CONS:

Businesses going for ULTRA HARD SELL

I would definitely recommend going with a BIT of an action plan about what you want (or perhaps more accurately, what you DON’T want), because some people will try to do the HARD SELL. And I mean like, jump down your throat before you even get to their stand and won’t let you leave without signing up to their mailing list. So BE STRONG and just say no 💪 (Politely of course, you don’t have to barge past them, by all means have a conversation with them…but stand your ground).

It’s Busy

We went later in the day in an attempt to avoid the crowds (although this COULD mean you miss out on freebies, but it was a risk we were willing to take). And it paid off for us getting there at 3pm, but I can imagine it being very cramped in there earlier in the day.

Getting emails MONTHS later from companies you had no idea existed

Kind of linked to the Hard Sell point I made. This is the problem with anyone you show any interest in…they insist on you writing down your name and email address. Which is great to essentially get a free reminder a few days later about the suppliers you liked, but I got a GDPR email from a random company a few weeks ago, which sent me into a mild panic: the name wasn’t anything to do with weddings, and it took me Googling the website link to realise it was a wedding ring company! Panic over, it wasn’t a stalker. But I’d totally forgotten I’d even given them my details. We weren’t interested in the slightest but I felt bad for the guy who had very few names on his sheet, so I suppose I’ve contradicted my earlier statement. At the end of the day though, it’s totally up to you how you choose to spend your experience; a s**t ton of emails might be a help to some, but may be a nuisance to others.

30689320_1110592105747487_4967645052424683520_o

All in all, they’re great events to attend, and whilst there are a couple of cons, they really don’t outweigh all the pros – and this post wasn’t necessarily about reviewing the experience, it was to give you a general idea. I hadn’t read much about what to expect from a Wedding Fayre when I googled ahead of our visit, so I’m putting this out there in the hope it finds someone who really needs an honest opinion. OR, maybe you just fancied a nosey…it seems people are curious about wedding related thangs!

If you’ve enjoyed reading this, stay tuned by subscribing/following my blog because I’ve got plenty of other wedding post ideas! 😊

Post Show Sign Off…

So the time has come for me to do a post show sign off. It’s now a week since we did our last show and bid a fond farewell to The Sunset Strip. Can you believe that? A week already?

But we had THE BEST TIME.

D2790A11-A89E-4AF9-B54F-E33DA1A9E227

We knew that we had fun with the show in rehearsals anyway, but getting it on stage with the set and our live band just took it to that next level that we needed. And when the audience came in, again, it took us to a new level.

My shoutout goes to Friday and Saturday night’s audiences who were on their feet, joining in, heckling in the appropriate places – it’s hard to explain if you haven’t been on stage to experience it, but energy like that gives the cast a new lease of life, an extra push 👍

bAnner 1

And it’s nothing special, more for my lovely cast… but I put together a little backstage video like last year. My plan was to have much more footage so I could do an interesting behind the scenes tour…but it was such a busy show, I spent very little time with my camera: so I failed MASSIVELY with that plan 😂 But at least I tried 😂

There’s not much more to say other than a massive thankyou.

A thankyou to the incredibly talented cast for being a joy to share the stage with. A thankyou to the creative team and backstage helpers for being equally brilliant and hilarious. A thankyou to the SICK band we had (and I’m sure there will be several audience members who join in with this thanks too, as the eye candy was spectacular). And last but by no means least, our RIDICULOUSLY amazing Director and MD, Louise Dension and Jim Lunt. An incredible duo of whom so many have the upmost respect. Can’t wait to work with you again ❤️️

bAnner 2

And now, I sign off. It’ll be back to my regular blog posts from now on, for the first time in 4 months! God knows what I’m going to talk about, but thankyou to all those who have tuned in to HSAP’s ‘Rock Of Ages’ posts 😘

Don’t Stop Believin’ 🤘

IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN…

(Today’s challenge Lynette – fit as many RoA song references into this post as possible – GO!)

Here I Go Again

I Wanna Rock because It’s The Final Countdown – IT’S SHOW WEEK!

I’m sure I’m not alone though when I say I Can’t Fight This Feeling of excitement for Rock Of Ages this week! The show feels like it’s in a REALLY good place, and now we’ve had chance to run it a few times and clean some sections, we can really just get on with having Nothing But A Good Time!

It’s such a feel good show, it’s just a 2 hour long party 😂 If you love comedy and your 80s anthems, The Search is Over because Rock of Ages ticks those boxes! We’re Not Gonna Take It if you don’t come and visit us – you need to get yourself to Harrogate Theatre in the Shadows of the Night between Weds 18th and Sat 21st. CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.

And HERE is this year’s promo vid! (Full disclosure, I’m not trained in the art of video editing – I’m just a dance teacher with a camera and a YouTube channel) 😂

So Come On Feel the Noise if You Want To Know What Love Is, and Don’t Stop Believing!

P.S. I managed 11 song references – you’ll have to come to the show to find out what the rest are 😉

The Cast Step Into Costume…

Arghhhhh it’s getting so close to show week now! With only a week to go, the cast stepped into costume for the first full run of the show.

It’s always exciting to see the show run in costume, it suddenly feels real and things start to make sense – for instance, it’s been one thing to see Alex strut around in his cowboy boots for the last few weeks…it’s been another to see them paired with tight leggings, fur coat and long blonde wig. That’s right, you’re in for a real treat! 😳😂

Not only is it good to see how it LOOKS, its good to see what does and doesn’t work with bits of costume. CAN I dance in those boots, IS my dress going to roll up, AM I going to be too hot in a jacket, IS my wig going to stay in place, CAN I do a lift safely in this costume without slipping. Not all of those are my issues can I point out, I’m just doing a lot of assuming here based on previous experience 😂

Not only that, it’s trying to work out your quick changes. If you’re mega organised, you’ll try and plan your costume based on how long you have to change into it. It IS easy to get carried away though, find the perfect costume and realise you have 20 seconds to change your entire wardrobe. Although from what I saw yesterday, the RoA cast seem to be on it, there weren’t too many panics! Of course, there are a COUPLE of issues, but we’ve got time to practice – and that’s part of the reason why we practice in costume 🙂 #OrganisedCast

And the final point to make – the show FEELS different. It adds another level; you can really start getting into it, and the characters come alive! It’s so much easier to rock out in boots and leathers than trainers and a baggy t-shirt 😂

So to wrap up the costume post, what can you expect? Lots of leather, speedy changes, a few wigs and thigh high boots. And some angel wings. Oh, and some lightsabers… Yehhhhhhh that’s right, there’s a right exciting mix of stuff thrown into this show – it’s been creatively written 😂

ALSO THIS WEEK, HSAP were on Stray FM! Charlotte, Luke, Alex and our Stage Manager, lovely Liz, were talking to Beth about all things ‘Rock Of Ages’. If you missed, it, you can have a listen HERE

See you next week WITH OUR PROMO VID! So stay tuned for a sneaky peek!

The Rock of Ages ‘How To’…

RIGHT ladies and gents, today I have a REAL treat for you! I’ve been looking forward to doing this ever since I got asked to blog for HSAP and I started thinking up ideas…

This week, I bring you our ‘How To:’ video!

For the first time you get to meet ALL of the cast members, as well as see the most relevant rock moves/choreo in the show! Some may seem a little bit out there…but ALL of them are totally relevant and happen at least once on stage…after watching the video you can either choose to take that as a promise or a warning 😂

I’m not going to say much this week, I want the video to do the talking! Happy viewing, and thankyou to the wonderful cast for just being themselves, going full out, and having fun whilst shooting the footage 😊  Oh, and please pretend the music is actually decent? Anything official or official sounding, YouTube told me off for. So this is as good as it’s gonna get from an amateur like me 😂

Don’t forget to book tickets so you don’t miss out!
