IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN…

(Today’s challenge Lynette – fit as many RoA song references into this post as possible – GO!)

Here I Go Again

I Wanna Rock because It’s The Final Countdown – IT’S SHOW WEEK!

I’m sure I’m not alone though when I say I Can’t Fight This Feeling of excitement for Rock Of Ages this week! The show feels like it’s in a REALLY good place, and now we’ve had chance to run it a few times and clean some sections, we can really just get on with having Nothing But A Good Time!

It’s such a feel good show, it’s just a 2 hour long party 😂 If you love comedy and your 80s anthems, The Search is Over because Rock of Ages ticks those boxes! We’re Not Gonna Take It if you don’t come and visit us – you need to get yourself to Harrogate Theatre in the Shadows of the Night between Weds 18th and Sat 21st. CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.

And HERE is this year’s promo vid! (Full disclosure, I’m not trained in the art of video editing – I’m just a dance teacher with a camera and a YouTube channel) 😂

So Come On Feel the Noise if You Want To Know What Love Is, and Don’t Stop Believing!

P.S. I managed 11 song references – you’ll have to come to the show to find out what the rest are 😉

The Cast Step Into Costume…

Arghhhhh it’s getting so close to show week now! With only a week to go, the cast stepped into costume for the first full run of the show.

protestRegina (Charlotte McCamley) and her protesters

It’s always exciting to see the show run in costume, it suddenly feels real and things start to make sense – for instance, it’s been one thing to see Alex strut around in his cowboy boots for the last few weeks…it’s been another to see them paired with tight leggings, fur coat and long blonde wig. That’s right, you’re in for a real treat! 😳😂

Not only is it good to see how it LOOKS, its good to see what does and doesn’t work with bits of costume. CAN I dance in those boots, IS my dress going to roll up, AM I going to be too hot in a jacket, IS my wig going to stay in place, CAN I do a lift safely in this costume without slipping. Not all of those are my issues can I point out, I’m just doing a lot of assuming here based on previous experience 😂

22359350_10155948345578013_490261324_nSex God, Stacee Jaxx (Alex Bradbury-Hall) and groupies

Not only that, it’s trying to work out your quick changes. If you’re mega organised, you’ll try and plan your costume based on how long you have to change into it. It IS easy to get carried away though, find the perfect costume and realise you have 20 seconds to change your entire wardrobe. Although from what I saw yesterday, the RoA cast seem to be on it, there weren’t too many panics! Of course, there are a COUPLE of issues, but we’ve got time to practice – and that’s part of the reason why we practice in costume 🙂 #OrganisedCast

And the final point to make – the show FEELS different. It adds another level; you can really start getting into it, and the characters come alive! It’s so much easier to rock out in boots and leathers than trainers and a baggy t-shirt 😂

22359137_10155948345403013_617092204_nMembers of the ensemble in ‘Heaven/More Than Words’ – get your lighters out!

So to wrap up the costume post, what can you expect? Lots of leather, speedy changes, a few wigs and thigh high boots. And some angel wings. Oh, and some lightsabers… Yehhhhhhh that’s right, there’s a right exciting mix of stuff thrown into this show – it’s been creatively written 😂

ALSO THIS WEEK, HSAP were on Stray FM! Charlotte, Luke, Alex and our Stage Manager, lovely Liz, were talking to Beth about all things ‘Rock Of Ages’. If you missed, it, you can have a listen HERE

See you next week WITH OUR PROMO VID! So stay tuned for a sneaky peek!

Welcome Back to the Strip…

Welcome, (whether that’s for the first time or tenth time)! It feels like a long time since I wrote a full post myself…all of our ‘Meet the Cast’ posts during summer were written by each individual in response to a list of questions. I thought some of the responses (particularly the ‘Most Embarrassing Moment Ever on Stage:’) were an absolute TREAT! If you missed any or want to read more, head to the Home page, they’re all listed there 🙂

It’s been two months (to the day, I just checked!) since I shared the ‘Wrapping Up For Summer‘ post, and despite having had only one recap rehearsal during summer, we’ve cracked RIGHT on, all guns blazing, no holding back, since coming back together a couple of weeks ago! No pussy-footing around for HSAP 😉

I guess we had to, there is/has been a lot to do in very little time. I think the thing with this show, is that the ensemble are involved in quite a lot of the songs and scenes. Whilst in other shows it’s common to have a couple of the principles duologue-ing (I just made that into a verb, yes) alone on stage, it’s very rare in Rock of Ages that you have less than 5 or 6 people on stage – it automatically makes it a bigger, longer job. But it’s perfect for the show, it’s much more of a group effort and party atmosphere – which is what you want 😉

21754356_10155874006443013_419744334_nChris Wood giving LIFE as Drew, with the rest of the cast in ‘Heaven/More Than Words’ – GET YOUR LIGHTERS OUT! (Or your phone backlight, that’s probably safer…sorry Harrogate Theatre #HealthAndSafety)

We’re now part way through blocking Act 2, with the view to finishing in the next week and a half or so, then we’re into cleaning and running the full show! Which is scary, that we’re at that point already – BUT IT’S 3 WEEKS TILL SHOW WEEK so I guess we’re right on track! (I popped that in caps lock to try and scare my fellow cast mates a little) 😉

Ticket sales have done well (based on how far we are from performance), but now it’s getting closer, those are really going to pick up. Make sure you book your tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment! I always add the link at the bottom of my posts, but today I’m going to make it really easy and pop the link → RIGHT HERE ← which’ll take you STRAIGHT to the booking page! No trawling through all the ‘What’s On’ stuff!

Now then, keep your eyes peeled for next week’s post…I’ve already been prepping it and I’m excited for you all to see it! To make sure you don’t miss it, you can Subscribe by clicking the Follow Graphicbutton:

On Desktop, it’s at the top right of the page opposite the post’s title. On mobile and tablet, the button is near the bottom of the page under my Instagram photos. OR even easier, as you scroll up/down, the little ‘Follow+’ will appear, click on it and the pop up will appear →→→→→→→

You DO have to enter your email, but you don’t get any spam at all. Promise. THE ONLY THING YOU GET is an email telling you when I post something new. Which never more than one email a week. So.

I’ll leave you there for today, with that info and the promise of an exciting post next week 😉

Until then…

Welcome to The Sunset Strip…

Post number 2 for Rock of Ages and welcome to The Sunset Strip!

By day, a hot, busy, mile-and-a-half stretch from Beverly Hills to West Hollywood, nose to tail with traffic. By night, it transforms. The snarling traffic is gone, and replaced by the roar of Harley Davidsons. The street is filled with Rock Stars and Wannabe Rockstars with big hair, big heels and a face full of makeup – and we’re not just talking about the girls. Bartenders pour as much Jack Daniels’ and Coke down their clients throats as possible, whilst those Wannabes rock out on stage in the hope of catching the attention of any music managers who happen to be passing.

19970927_10155656552383013_850121670_nEd Leigh as Lonny Barnett with the cast

Enter Lonny Barnett, the narrator of our story. He introduces the strip, the Bourbon Room – where he works as assistant to bar owner, Dennis Dupree – and most importantly, Drew Boley: a busboy at The Bourbon Room, a Rock Star Wannabe and the Romeo of our story. After a little sing song, Lonny introduces Sherrie Christian: the Juliet of our story, who’s just moved from a small town in Texas to make it ‘big’ in the city.

Elsewhere on the Strip, a pair of German developers approach the city’s Mayor to impress on him the importance of ‘clean living’. Much to the anger of City Planner, Regina, they try to persuade him to abandon the “sex, drugs and rock-n-roll” lifestyle of the Sunset Strip.

20067523_10155656554223013_1934503372_nAlex Bradbury-Hall as Stacee Jaxx with fan girls

When Dennis learns the plan includes ripping down The Bourbon Room, he believes that bringing in Rock Star/Sex God Stacee Jaxx and his band Arsenal (who’ve just announced their break up) will help raise more money.

Skip ahead a few songs – (I’m not gonna give it all away, but Drew and Sherrie get closer, then further apart, then she leaves – standard ‘love story drama’ 😉 ). Enter Justice Charlier, owner of nearby ‘Venus Club’. Sherrie grudgingly accepts work as the otherwise known ‘gentleman’s club’.

As Act 1 closes, everyone is alone – Drew as an up-coming Rock Star, Sherrie as a dancer, Regina protesting the redevelopment and Dennis trying to save his club. And off you go to bar for a top up, singing ‘Here I Go Again’.

20030940_10155656534603013_163827019_n (1)Ensemble in rehearsal for ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’

There, my lovelies, is where I leave you. I don’t want to give too much away, you’ll just have to come and see the show to find out how it ends 😉 It’s not Shakespeare, I know that. But it’s a kick-ass, feel-good Rock show, which, not gonna lie, is hilarious too :’) You’ll be singing along in your seat to CLASSIC 80s anthems (please remember to do a vocal warm up though)… You’ll be having ‘Nothing But a Good Time’ as ‘We Build This City’ in the ‘Shadows of the Night’ – AND ‘Don’t Stop Believing!’ (See what I did there?) 😉 What’s not to love?!

Until next time,
